Menton, France

Menton is a town that I’m surprised isn’t swamped with influencers. The beautiful, tight streets of the old town and the cathedral that stands high above everything else are stunning. This town is on the French Riviera, bordering Italy.

Facts

  • Difficulty - easy if no mobility issues

  • Time - sunset

  • Season - summer

  • Elevation - sea level

Access

Parking in Menton is not difficult, with several car parks available. During peak summer it can get busy but at sunset everything calms down in preparation for the evening ahead.

Photo Location

This photo is taken from the pier near La Cabane Plage. There is a flat walkway up to the rocks at the end. There is a bridge of no more than three metres to get to the rocks which require some scrambling to find the foreground, but shooting from the flat area and excluding some of the rocks is an alternative.

Detail

For simplicity, a camera mounted on a Platypod makes for the easiest shot, particularly owing to the need to scramble one the rocks. Other than this, there is nothing else to consider aside from the fact that the pier is used by fishermen and boaters, and we shouldn’t impede them.

Gear

I used a Nikon Z 6 and Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 lens with a CPL filter.

Settings

36mm, f/22., ISO 50, 3 seconds.

The information in this post is geared around how I got the featured shot, and as such the information may or may not be true to other seasons.
